Chapter Three Foreign Language Teaching Methodology (4 class hours)
1.Teaching content:
To discuss the nature of FLTM, the basis and guiding ideology of FLTM, the content and tasks of FLTM and approaches and methods of FLTM research.
2. Focal point and difficulty:
To understand FLTM —an independent science, FLTM—a branch of inter-disciplinary subject, the basis of FLTM, the guiding ideology of FLTM,
the content and tasks of FLTM and the main approaches to FLTM research.
3. Extracurricular learning
To study more about “a complex process involving various factors in teaching”
To analyze “the significance and role of FLTM research”
Chapter Four FLTM and the Related Disciplines(4 class hours)
1.Teaching content:
To discuss the FLTM, pedagogy and general teaching methodology, the general process of teaching, the general law of teaching, the general principles of teaching, general teaching methods
2. Focal point and difficulty:
To understand FLTM and pedagogy, the relationship between GTM(general teaching methodology) and FLTM, common factors that affect the students’ learning foreign languages, the differences between general teaching methods and FL teaching methods.
3. Extracurricular learning
To analyze the factors that affect the students’ learning foreign languages in the new era.
Chapter Five System of FLTM(4 class hours)
1.Teaching content:
To discuss the system of FLTM and its composition, co-existence of various system of FLTM and its reason and the Composition of FLTM System.
2. Focal point and difficulty:
To understand various FLTM systems and all kinds of teaching syllabuses and textbooks, the relationship between teaching ideology and course design and the main components that decide the characteristics of FLTM system.
3. Extracurricular learning
To analyze the relationship between the components of FLTM system in the new era.
Chapter Six A Brief History of Foreign Language Teaching (4 class hours)
1.Teaching content:
To discuss the brief history of FLT in China, which includes the early foreign languages education, modern foreign languages education, foreign language teaching before 1978 and the development of ELT in China;
To discuss the brief history of FLT abroad, which includes the reform movement 1882—1906, modern language teaching and research, structural language teaching, communicative language teaching, FLT in Europe and the Unites States.
2. Focal point and difficulty:
To understand the early foreign languages education before 1840, the establishment of the imperial translators’ college started the English education in modern China, the four major phases of development of ELT in China and the representative writings and world-famous scholars of FL Teaching Abroad.
3. Extracurricular learning
To know more about the schools specialized in training foreign personnel
To study more about another way of dividing the history of FLT in China
Chapter Seven Theories of Linguistics (4 class hours)
1.Teaching content:
To discuss the traditional linguistics, American structuralism, transformational generative linguistics, functional linguistics, theories of psychology and second language acquisition, communicative language teaching, New approaches to language syllabus and exploration of the human relations.
2. Focal point and difficulty:
To understand the forerunners of American structuralism-- Leonard Bloomfield, Franz Boas and Edward Sapir, Noam Chomsky and transformational generative linguistics, Bronisaw Malinowski and Functional linguistics, Gestalt psychology, Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis, John B. Watson and behaviorism.
3. Extracurricular learning
To study representatives of functional linguistics and their theories
To know German psychologists: Max Wertheimer, Kurt Koffka, and Kurt Lewin
To study more about cognitive psychology, the acculturation theory, the discourse theory
Chapter Eight A Brief Introduction to Some FLTM (4 class hours)
1.Teaching content:
To discuss The Grammar-Translation Method, Direct Method, Oral Approach, Audio-Lingual Method, Cognitive Approach, Communicative Approach, Natural Approach, Task-based Language Teaching Approach, Total Physical Response, Community Language Learning, Suggestopedia and the Silent Way.
2. Focal point and difficulty:
To understand The Grammar-Translation Method, Audio-Lingual Method, Communicative Approach and Task-based Language Teaching Approach.
3. Extracurricular learning
To study more about the above-mentioned FLTM

形成性评估与终结性评估相结合。
课堂考勤、课堂参与、课后作业。
笔试或课程论文
2. 成绩评定办法:
课程总成绩(百分制) = 平时总成绩(30%)+笔试或课程论文成绩(70%)
平时总成绩 = 课堂考勤(30%)+课堂参与(30%)+课后作业(40%)
